Wagon trails are part of the history and heritage of the Canadian prairies and the trail from Wood Mountain(est.1876) to Caron(est.1886) served the Territory for a quarter century before the existence of the province of Saskatchewan and the arrival of the European settlers. In 1916 the meandering trail was surveyed as a road to begin to formalize infrastructure for the newly populated region. In 1920 the survey plan was abandoned in favour of utilizing the grid road allowances of the general land titles survey.<\/p>\n
One hundred years later the meandering ruts pressed into the prairie by wagons of early travellers are still visible in the native grasslands of the Coteau hills southwest of Moose Jaw.<\/p>\n
