{"id":591,"date":"2021-09-09T18:58:45","date_gmt":"2021-09-09T22:58:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ymg.test\/artwork\/april-a-time-for-special-guests-2\/"},"modified":"2022-05-11T17:34:26","modified_gmt":"2022-05-11T21:34:26","slug":"april-a-time-for-special-guests-2","status":"publish","type":"product","link":"https:\/\/www.yvettemoore.com\/artwork\/april-a-time-for-special-guests-2\/","title":{"rendered":"APRIL &#8211; A TIME FOR SPECIAL GUESTS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For over 50 years, Grandpa has been anticipating the arrival of the tiny new baby chicks on the second week in April that had been ordered early in the year from a local hatchery.\u00a0 He has been busy preparing a stall in the barn with the help of his grandson.<\/p>\n<p>Grandpa and Grandma are excited to show the grandchildren the new chicks and explain the story about a chick&#8217;s egg tooth &#8211; a small, sharp horn-like growth on the tip of a newborn chick\u2019s beak. They use it to crack and break through the surface of their egg during hatching so they can break free. Once a chick enters the world, they no longer need their egg tooth. For most chicks, it will simply drop off within 3 to 4 days after being outside of their egg.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<h5>APRIL &#8211;\u00a0 A TIME FOR SPECIAL GUESTS<\/h5>\n<p>&#8220;April is a month of waiting.\u00a0 We wait for the last bit of snow and ice to melt.\u00a0 The land lies cold and damp, so we wait for it to warm up.\u00a0 Sloughs and fields of bleached stubble provide a &#8220;bed and breakfast&#8217; for flocks of geese and ducks migrating to their northern summer homes.\u00a0 \u00a0Their return is reassuring.\u00a0 We watch for any hint of green on the brown countryside.
