“A Country Collection” by Yvette Moore
“No Girls Allowed” – Two young boys have completed the laborious task of building their dream tree house but before they can call it their own, they have to post their signage to clearly let their pesky sisters know the rules.
“Chicken Feed” – It’s time for that daily chore of making sure the chickens have their share of the kitchen garden scraps left over from the homemade meals.
“Rafter’s Retreat” – Using old railroad ties and boards that were laying around, this young boy crafted the perfect getaway raft. Once built, he and his best four legged friend, found a perfect spot amongst the secluded reeds to spend the afternoon.

“Weather Beaten Collection” by Yvette Moore
“Cat Nap” – It’s mid afternoon and its time for this farm cat to find a place up against the old chicken coop to bask in the warmth of the sun as it closes its eyes for a well deserved break from mouse hunting around the farm.
“A Kettle Full” – The paint is slowly wearing away, exposing a lovely patina of subdued greys and browns – a magical backdrop for the vibrant hues of the red geranium planted in the old enamel pot. Having the jacket and rubber boots by the back door along with the old corn broom lets us know that there is still someone living there.
“Snoops” – Travels through the countryside always finds a few old abandoned houses that have left behind stories of those that once lived in them. An interesting palette of colours from the weathered wood and the empty windows have drawn this young lad and his dog to the character of the interior as well.

“Standing Strong” by Yvette Moore
Since the 1880’s, the traditional wood grain elevator has been an icon doting the skyline of the prairies. By the 1930’s, over 3200 elevators had been built. In 1999, only 304 remained.
This Saskatchewan Wheat Pool elevator was the second elevator built in Spring Valley. The first one was built in 1925 but was destroyed by fire on August 22, 1963. The elevator in this painting was moved from Pickthall as soon as the site was cleaned. This elevator opened for business in the early fall of the same year and remained open till 1985. In the 1986, the rail line was lifted.
This elevator was privately owned and used for grain storage until August, 24th, 2016 when it was destroyed by fire.

“Full Steam Ahead” by Yvette Moore
Steam Locomotive #5093 was built in 1918 by the Montreal Locomotive Works Ltd. It is a Pacific-type locomotive, 75 feet long and weighs 287,500 pounds, or slightly more than 143 tons. While operative, it hauled passenger trains to various parts of western Canada, including Regina. Its last trip was on August 25th, 1960, when it completed a run from Swan River, Manitoba to Regina, a distance of 242 miles. On this final run the locomotive hauled five cars. Thirty-five passengers also made the trip.
The Regina Plains Museum purchased the locomotive from the C.N.R. in 1964. The locomotive was refurbished in 1995 and moved to Union Station (Casino Regina).

“Two Old Bins” by Yvette Moore
This couple of old bins stood alone on the side of the highway for years – just waiting out the rest of their days as relics of our rural past. Their usefulness had become obsolete as they were replaced with steel bins over the years. But as a foreground for the clouds and sky so full of different shades of colours, they were perfect and had a presence worth noting.

“Above and Beyond” by Yvette Moore
Looking from above, the view goes on and on from the fields of grain way beyond to the rolling hills in the distance. The sky presents itself with all those colours that the prairies are so famous for. Dotted in the middle are the remains of an abandoned farm – but yet the buildings seem to be standing just as straight as ever.
