The Day is done
The irony of this painting is that it can take on so many meanings. The sunset tells us is the end of the day. The farm is deserted so it is at the end of its days. But yet, the painting seems to take on a life of its own – as if to say that even at this time of its existence, it still has its own presence for today and tomorrow is another day.
