A Prairie Christmas

On the prairies, a fresh blanket of snow creates endless possibilities of fun and outdoor entertainment for all during the season.  Young and old enjoyed the basic of winter activities before they would all venture inside to celebrate the occasion.

Inside the house, the women were frantically getting the last dishes prepared for the family’s Christmas dinner.

With a house full of friends and relatives from far and near, the hours of laughter and cheer was always the best gift that you could ever receive.

A Prairie Christmas” is one of Yvette’s most dear recreations of celebrating the holidays on the prairies.

Description

This painting was so much fun to do.  The farm I choose to use was my aunt and uncle’s , the Andries farm, located near Benson, Saskatchewan.  The whole setup was idealic in presenting a sense of Christmas on a farm that had been built in the early 1900’s.

The photo’s I used were late summer, so to transform it to a winter scene became a challenge.  Many of the activities going on are from some of the other paintings that I have created over the years.  They are of my dad, children and their friends having fun the good old fashion way.  Maning the horse and sleigh is Rod McDonald and his son, Ross and their dog – I had actually taken these photos a couple of winters before.

If you look really close, you can see the footprints of Santa’s reindeers on the roof of the house.  Inside the house, the women are frantically getting the last dishes prepared for the family’s Christmas dinner.

An Yvette Moore Giclee Print image is generated from a high resolution digital scan of the original painting and is printed with archival quality inks onto canvas or watercolour paper. The canvas is acid-free with a varnish finish designed for long-term, fade resistant fine art. The watercolour paper is made of 100% cotton linters with traditional matte finish also designed for long term, fade-resistant reproductions.
