Zach Dietrich, Wendy Parsons & Devon Dietrich
Renowned as two of the most well-known and collected potters from Saskatchewan, this husband and wife team have been creating pottery from their studio in Moose Jaw for over 30 years. As co-owners of Parsons Dietrich Pottery, where they have their studio and gallery, they have built a gas fired kiln and a Cooperative wood fired kiln on their property. In the last few years, their son, Devon has joined them and has started to specialize in creating his own technique in hand building pottery.
Each piece is handcrafted using Saskatchewan clay and glazes, drawing from the rich colours and designs of our prairie environment. Zach and Wendy’s deep roots and love of the prairies, along with their distinctive craftsmanship, makes entertaining with their pieces of pottery a genuine and true taste of the prairies that will last for years to come.
Recently with the Saskatchewan Arts Board’s ArtSmart program, Zach and Wendy have enjoyed making clay tile benches with students in their schools.
Zach Dietrich
Zach Dietrich is a graduate of the University of Regina. He then attended pottery classes at the University of Regina Extension Department for two years. There he studied with Mel Bolen and Don Chester before moving to Endeavour with Wendy Parsons and set up a pottery studio. At Endeavour, they built and fired a wood burning kiln. In 1980 they moved to Moose Jaw where they bought a little church for a studio/gallery and built a gas fired kiln.
Zach has received the ‘Best in Clay Award’ at the Saskatchewan Craft Council’s annual juried exhibition; received Saskatchewan Arts Board grants; and has shown his work extensively. He is a juried member of the Saskatchewan Craft Council and served on its board for many years. Zach has also been active on the Saskatchewan Culture Board and the Moose Jaw Museum & Art Gallery’s board.
Zach is a member of CARFAC, the Moose Jaw Museum & Art Gallery and the Saskatchewan Craft Council. His work has been collected by the Moose Jaw Museum & Art Gallery and by Prince Edward. Zach has taught many classes and workshops. Lately, he and Wendy have been involved with four ArtSmart projects, funded by the Saskatchewan Arts Board.
Wendy Parsons
Wendy Parsons holds a Fine Arts degree from the University of Regina and a Masters degree in Museum Studies from the University of Leicester, U.K. She has been the Resident Artist for both the cities of Weyburn and Moose Jaw. Wendy has worked for the Moose Jaw Museum & Art Gallery as the education co-ordinator and the Organization of Saskatchewan Arts Councils.
Wendy has shown extensively and taught many classes and workshops throughout the years. She is a juried member of the Saskatchewan Craft Council, CARFAC, and the Moose Jaw Museum & Art Gallery. She has served on the SCC board and the Saskatchewan Southwest Tourism board. Wendy has been a juror for the Saskatchewan Craft Council, the Saskatchewan Arts Board and the Alberta Council for the Arts. Her work has been collected by the Moose Jaw Museum & Art Gallery and the Sask. Arts Board.
Devon Dietrich
Devon is the son Zach and Wendy. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in computer Science from the University of Saskatchewan.
He has been apprenticing with his parents for many years. He specializes in hand building pieces and has developed several unique designs using this method.
As a new member of the Saskatchewan Craft Council, Devon continues to take workshops and develop his craft.
